The primary issues that I faced with Windows (Win10 nearly a decade ago) are

• very slow updates
• constant 100% disk usage after boot
• high background process usage
• [Rare] messing with my dual partition setup
• The final error which caused me to format my PC -> After logging in, the desktop froze, no icons showing up, no task manager.

If I had never used Linux, these wouldn’t even seem like problem; just normal Windows shenanigans. But after using Linux, I can never go back. I don’t know how much worse/better Win11 is now but can’t be bothered to try.

I don’t mind public transport because it’s good enough for my needs

I mostly use public transport other than scenarios where it’s just not feasible (catching a flight at 6-7 am). What I meant to say is that I am fortunate enough to be in an area which has good public transport.

I consider myself rich. This is how i have quantified it

• Rich enough to avail public transport
• Rich enough to eat home-cooked meals (enough time to purchase the items as well)
• Rich enough to spend time on the gym to improve my health
• Rich enough to spend time on my hobbies (gaming)
• Rich enough to have spare time to spend with my loved ones
• Rich enough to afford a nationalized healthcare plan
• Rich enough to plan a investment technique so that I can retire peacefully

I am extremely privileged. Sometimes I wonder if I even deserve it. I don’t think i will require any more money at this point. But people around me will call me middle-class because i’m not hustling enough. I don’t care to be honest; i’m at peace.

This is not me. But the kinds of people I’m encountered in my social circle. I’m in the CS/Research industry, so all my tools are linux compatible and have been a Linux user for the past decade.

I think it’s better to have a realistic expectation of Linux rather than consider it a 1:1 Windows alternative. I agree with your last para fully.

• Industry standard music production s/w
• Offbeat collection of educational/research s/w, creators of which don’t know that Linux exists. They sometimes don’t even support MacOS
• Office Suite which is compatible with MS Office shenanigans
