  • Problem is, its not largely climate change spending. Everyone just sees the headline “biggest climate bill in history” and thats good enough for them. Well, wheres the cheaper EV’s? Wheres the solar panels, the wind farms, why is oil production still increasing? Everyone got scammed. Its a puny climate bill that even has anti climate components like more land leasing for oil and gas extraction. It got poisoned with lobbyists and capitalism, its tax cuts for businesses in hopes theyll do good.

  • The heavy, direct influence of a billion+ person goverment dumping untold resources into producing EVs/Solar/etc at dirt cheap rates, then selling them, means that no other country can create it’s own independent industry in these very important products.

Why cant the US dump more resources to compete? Why is the answer to one country investing heavily in climate change fighting technologies not to invest heavily in climate change fighting technologies yourself?

  • Climate change is real. China feels like the only country treating it like its real. I see stories about a country investing heavily in renewable energy, in EVs, in energy storage, and i dont understand why theyre not getting unanimous applause. Other countries are mad because they’re doing better than them and want to drag them down to our gas SUV dependent level. Other countries should feel nothing but shame for not treating climate change like its real.

  • Actually what im seeing from other countries are even larger and heavier technologies. I mean all of these can be mobilized as low speed ground vehicles, a far cry from the mobility and invasive potential of aircraft. Its the energy requirement thats the kicker, and the weight of batteries. Which is why we’re only seeing this technology being deployed as stationary anti air defense. Its a nice bonus that lasers have to travel in a straight line so we dont have to worry about long range trajectory attacks like with ICBM’s.

The only downside im seeing so far is surprisingly limited range hampering its ability to handle incoming supersonic targets.

  • I am talking about the war on drugs, as that is what this is akin to, purely trying to block disinformation.

All of the “other considerations” youve added, except for community context, are just tools to block. Like the war on drugs using drug tests, drug sniffing dogs, report hotlines, methods to find drugs and punish for it.

Community context is a good example of things that do work, that is akin to educating people about drugs rather than trying to block them. But twitter has that tool, twitter is being punished for not blocking misinformation.

  • Just like you don’t have to “beat” drugs to help drug users find a better path, you don’t have to “beat” disinformation in order to help stop it from spreading

The war on drugs notably did not involve helping users find a better path, it only tried to block the path of drug use, with pretty disastrous results as drug users became pariahs pushed to more dangerous avenues of drug sources to get around the blocks.

The only thing we are talking about here is a block from one path of disinformation. Theyll get pushed to the fringes of more dangerous sources of misinformation.
