Oh man, I think it’s the ‘e’ at the end of your name, which in a bunch of Romance languages would make it feminine. If it’s any consolation, solid men’s English names like ‘Lindsay’ and ‘Ashley’ are almost exclusively women’s names now for the same reason. (The “-y” or “-ie” marks a cutesy diminutive version, i.e. “bird” to “birdy”.)
I don’t think it’s the similarity to “Imane” (unless this is happening in your home culture) because I have never heard of that name before. However, I have seen “Imran” and I would have assumed that “Imrane” was the feminine version because of that ‘e’.

Yes! First time I had hot pot was with a couple of exchange students. This was one of their dipping sauce ingredients. I’ve never been able to find it on my own. What’s it called? I’d take a shot at making it myself. Also, what’s the red stuff that goes in the sauce? I thought it was maybe fermented tofu. I’m pretty sure I’ve found that, but all of it has weird food coloring in it. I find I have to keep a lot of chemicals out of my food.

Yeah, I’ve seen this cropping up over the last few days and was wondering.
A quick look through a few news sources suggests that it is related to an artificial ground mulch made from recycled materials. This mulch was used in a bunch of parks. It came from a recycling company that claims all its mulch has tested negative for asbestos. Again, although it is referred to as ‘bonded asbestos’ which means it has been combined with another building material, it doesn’t say what. Up until the 90s asbestos was used in concrete, under lino, and in drywall.
… I don’t know who the fuck would use ground up construction materials for playgrounds mulch. Pretty sure the school near me (in Canada) users ground up tires, so I’m not walking too tall here. I suspect that’s going to be it’s own thing in a few years. (Tires are pretty fucking toxic. They very optimistically thought they could make artificial reefs from them in the 80s. No. Nothing will grow on them.)
I’ve heard this story before, but never registered the date: December 25th, 1937. Having played in Boxing Day rugby matches, and considering holiday “sport” matches in general I’m going to make a couple reasonably informed guesses. 1) The goalie was drunk. Quite drunk. Everyone was drunk. 2) Everyone was still on the field … drinking, the goalie just didn’t realise they weren’t playing any more because he couldn’t see them.

This was not the dumbest thing to say at all. For all your extra words, those high frequencies are de facto line of sight. If you live in the mountains anywhere remotely rural you know this is true. Also, the low frequency bands are known for their penetration and diffraction, but even VHF (~150MHz) is considered line of sight due to its low diffraction. On what basis are you so confident? Neither physics or empirical evidence back you up. Pretty high-handed with your, “dumbest thing to say,” comment.
I discovered one lighter that no one will steal from me. They’ll give it back to me a week later when we run into each other. It’s a Toronto Maple Leafs lighter. I buy them whenever I see them now.
I believe that “Indian Giving” is sourced in a cultural misunderstanding between Indigenous and European societies. Indigenous societies were reciprocity based, so giving gifts should be reciprocated with a gift of like value to strengthen relationships, or increase honour (social standing). The Europeans were working in a patron-client system so a gift was seen as a way of purchasing access to power through a patron. The Europeans thought the Indigenous people were paying for access to power (like a tributary), so there’s no expectation of returning a like gift. The indigenous people thought they were entering into a mutual relationship, and when a like gift wasn’t returned that was seen as reneging, so they took back their ‘offer’.
