help-circle

  • That first sentence is what I love about Linux bros. For all the supposed gatekeeping and pretentiousness that goes on in these circles, i find this to be much more representative of my experience. As i said elsewhere in the thread, im really not very well versed in all that Linux is/can be. And yet, somehow someway, ive never really felt put down for it when seeking help.

Before this comment, i honestly didnt know there could be such preferences to ur package managers.

  • You can have genocide in Gaza, or you can have genocide in Gaza and (“stepping-stone”) Ukraine. Its an unfortunate choice, but an important one nonetheless. If im harping on a moot point to you bc you already know this, rest assured i say this for all other readers as well. Your votes down ballot are also extremely valuable. This primary there was a referendum in my county that I was in favor of that passed by less than 100 votes.

  • Yeah… actually. I know, craziness. But its true. Everyone drinks from the wrong cup of kool aid at the party eventually. We need to have empathy and sympathy for those led astray.

That was answering the first question, anyway. For the second, id say a resound, “fuck no!” but that unfortunately doesnt negate the answer to the first question :(

  • Ppl on this site sometimes act like war doesnt need to happen if they just dont believe in it, personally. I get it, im a pacifist, too. War is evil and hellish. This is a fact.

It is also a fact that russia invaded Ukraine and has on numerous occasions now called it a stepping stone. If u dont want a war, youve already got one! If you dont want it at your doorstep (bc thats the closest youll get to avoiding it), then Ukraine must be better funded and equiped.

We’re not the only ones with wants, we’re not the only ones with plans. Countries have them, too, ans some countries happen to be much more hostile towards ppl who like having their wants and needs free from government intervention.

  • When an issue arises, it’s easier for a non-programmer to search for help than look at code.

Ahh, look! Its my nearly decade long experience with Linux in one sentence! So that whole non-user-friendliness thing about Linux being uncomprehensible to amateurs, that’s surely just around the corner for me now, right? Right?!

Not trying to argue any point here, ur comment in this context just made me chuckle.

  • Ive not had “must update on the spot right this very second,” but ive had countless, “we will update the second u power off or attempt a restart. If you try and restart into ur linux partition, we will somehow ensure u fail to boot right up until u got thru with our forced update.” Which also sometimes goes hand in hand with, “oops, i was supposed to update, but i shit myself instead. Youre going to need to try again at least once or twice. Dont worry, whether the update goes thru or not, itll only take a maximum of 90 minutes.”

Windows can fuck its facehole thru its ass as far as its auto updates are concerned for all i care.
