Same in our house, and we used to have all kinds of Goya stuff. Fortunately, it’s never been that high quality to begin with and can be easily replaced by alternatives.
I remember people on reddit misgendering that antiwork mod for the crime of [checks notes] a botched interview on Fox News that didn’t even fucking matter.
It was an ugly thing to see all that transphobia out in the open like that.
Not at all. I don’t know the exact mechanism, but a lot of people experience a period of intense unbridled happiness while becoming sober. It only lasts a couple of weeks to a month, but it’s so great when it happens. I’d dance by myself listening to music and just be happy as a kid on a snow day. Some people have described it as having “rainbows shooting out your asshole.” I wish I could feel like that all the time.
Recovered alcoholic since 2017.
One of the trippiest parts about getting sober was experiencing something called “REM rebound” where you dream intensely and vividly all night long, night after night. The way it was explained to me is that alcohol inhibits REM sleep to such a degree that it’s like it has to catch up for lost time. It’s exhausting but also an interesting experience, I’ll say that much.
It took quite some time to feel like I got a restful sleep, but oh man, what a difference when I did! Reflecting on my drunken decade, I don’t think I knew what a good night’s sleep was. I felt like I was sleeping, but it’s more like I was passing out from alcohol overdose day after day. It’s no wonder I was constantly depressed and suicidal all those years.
That and the “pink cloud” phase (which I wish could’ve lasted forever) were the most interesting parts about becoming sober.
One thing I’ve learned living in a conservative state in the US is that everything is my fault by proxy
I should just be rich enough to move, how hard can it be
Ok, but Android wouldn’t have to allow sideloading by that logic, yet…
This is a good point. Had it been presented like this, it would have hit different.
As for funding, the servers are supported on a donation basis, with no big corporations behind them. This leads to a problem concerning user data and privacy, as there isn’t a single accountable entity behind the network.
Bit of a weird take now, isn’t it?
Same. Those sites simply don’t exist to me. If it’s so important that I see it, then copy/paste the content.
Do you have a recommendation for one that’s better? I tried OpenBoard, but it’s even more infuriating to me.
I really wish that I could use it. I try to use open source as much as I can, but the way it uses backspace to undo autocorrect is a big problem for me.
I should look into some other FOSS keyboards, though.
No, I said he is actively supporting a bigot, because he is, which to me is unethical and unconscionable.
Stop putting words in my mouth.
Edit: It’s always hilarious to me when these people go off about how I’m aCtInG sUpErIoR just because I adhere to the bare minimum of empathetic choices. Says a lot more about them than it does about me.
I’ve also noticed most of these shitlord accounts are from Lemm.ee. They don’t vet their application at all, huh? Just let anyone in.
I think you’re missing the infuriating part. I deliberately expanded the dialog box to demonstrate that lower-case “expanse” did not exist in the dictionary. The dictionary had “learned” that “expanse” is solely a proper noun. That’s the mildly infuriating part.
…so you will actively support a bigot.
Finished that statement for you.
You are part of the problem. I’m done talking to you, but I do hope you get better.
This is just one of many examples. If it’s remembering a common English word like “expanse” as a name, then that’s crappy design. If you check my other comments in this thread, you will find more examples of autocorrect fucking up.
Either way, it fits here. It’s definitely infuriating when trying to express yourself in text, and perfectly normal words keep changing. And it’s gotten noticeably worse, the “smarter” these apps try to be. Autocorrect on my Motorola Droid from a decade ago worked much better than the one on the Samsung phone I’m using now, because it didn’t try to do the thinking part for me.
You said, “One thing is illegal, the other is not,” which is directly equating legality with ethics/morality.
Edit: If I’m somehow misinterpreting this statement, then perhaps you can explain how legality is relevant here? Everything we do is ultimately an ethical and moral choice. It’s up to us to determine what the responsible choice is. Here I think the choice is pretty clear.
Don’t like Mozilla? Great, then use one of its many forks, such as Librewolf, Waterfox, Mull, Fennec, etc.
I guess it was more of a general statement. I didn’t intend to target you specifically, just a trend I’ve seen. I’ve seen people link to statements made by Mozilla about things like supporting LGBT+ rights, and taking issue with that sort of thing, or who say they don’t care if the Brave CEO is actively disseminating bigotry. Y’know, the type of person who watches the Quartering and complains that we’ve become too “woke” and too sensitive.
I don’t think you should feel guilty. Even if you’re one of the people I’m describing above, I don’t think you should feel guilty. I just think you should opt to change. According to every therapist I’ve seen, guilt is pretty counterproductive for everyone involved.
If your morals and ethics hinge on legality, then I’ve got some bad news for you…
In that sense, it worked. Let’s face it: The people who don’t care about the author’s raging bigotry were never going to be convinced regardless, but there were a lot of us who didn’t even consider playing it because of the TERF.
