  • You’re clearly not cherry picking. If you were, you might have some articles that at least hint that ECs might be more harmful than cigarettes, but none of them come close. The first link you posted gets the closest, but it’s also just an article about one experiment, using 4 liquids that are not recommended in EC communities.

The rest of the actual studies you posted are not about safety. They do not compare disease or illness or death between the two. One of them does compare the amount of toxic chemicals in ECs to cigarettes and finds ECs to have zero. Until there are long term studies comparing the rate of death and disease, no journal is going to publish any definitive answer that ECs are safer than cigarettes. Until then, we will just have a bunch of studies comparing chemical composition, rates and particle sizes. And if it isn’t obvious, chemical composition and their rates are a bit more worrisome than the latter.

If you read through these studies and still think vaping is more harmful than cigarettes, then by all means wait the 50 years it will take the scientific community to out right say the obvious “vaping isn’t healthy, but it is significantly less harmful than traditional tobacco smoking.”

  • Ignorant take. When vape products contain, at most, 6 ingredients, all of which have been individually extensively studied, none of which are carcinogenic, and 5 of them are FDA approved for food and pharmaceuticals, theres a pretty obvious harm reduction to inhaling thousands of compounds with at least 70 being carcinogens. So much so that every study you can find will conclude the same.

Here’s a quote from a source I would call a qualified institution on the matter: "In its 2016 assessment, the Royal College of Physicians of London stated: “Although it is not possible to precisely quantify the long-term health risks associated with e-cigarettes, the available data suggest that they are unlikely to exceed 5% of those associated with smoked tobacco products and may well be substantially lower than this figure.”

That isn’t pseudoscience. It’s easily found by a quick Google search.

Conclusively, we’re going to find that the tobacco industry makes far less money off of refined nicotine than it does from tobacco. There’s a reason Phillip Morris bought a 30% stake in Juul, ran their advertising into the ground, and now also exclusively funds anti vaping ads rather than anti tobacco product ads.

They hooked a new generation on nicotine with Juul and are trying to ban vaping to sell their higher profit margin cigarettes.

Whether my conspiracy conjecture is found to be true or not, studies comparing vaping to smoking keep coming to the same conclusion, vaping is less harmful than smoking. If you have a study or information to the opposite I would love to read it.

  • Or just use your aging sponges in a rotating lifecycle. I have 4 stages/sponges at one time that slowly get demoted as they age.

    1. New sponge only gets light jobs. Scrapped clean dishes, pans that just need the oil washed off.

    2. Middle stage wear is used for stuck on foods and generally more gross dishes.

    3. Not usable for dishes, but good for counter/stove tops.

    4. Dirty jobs. Nothing food related. Floors, bathrooms, use with disinfectants.

  • It’s of my own opinion that they are absolutely avoiding the WARN act, while also trying to dump a ton of workers into the market to raise unemployment rates, lower the wage demand power of prospective employees, thereby decreasing job mobility.

Its quite telling when every CEO sounds off like a mocking bird about trivial shit like returning to office after making record profit for 3 years.

I badly want to write a rant but I’ve already met my quota for today.

Sorry I ranted a bit anyway.

Everyone is choosing red because they think they would be rich, but would they?

Imagine having the knowledge, that you knowingly stepped back in time, and all of your memories are now not real. They won’t happen again unless you actually act exactly as you had before. No one believes anything you say because you are 6. You’re forced to go through school again at 6.

Let’s say you use your genius to progress quickly through school. Those sorts of kids become famous prodigies. You would end up on the talk show circuit with Ellen.

You would also know way more about your parents than you should at that age, and cause familial issues that would land you on Dr. Phil.

Imagine how torturous it would be to relive every moment, not being able to convince anyone of anything due to your age, unless you give up the fact that you were somehow sent back in time and know the future. Would you be able to convince your family without going insane? Would any government agency take qcute interest in your foresight? Imagine having to keep a level head while also going through puberty a second time.

How much will your presence affect the timeline? Maybe your first big move to get rich causes all subsequent moves to not exist. Maybe your parents hate you. Maybe it’s chaos theory. Maybe you end up taking a path away from opulence and become an addict due to the constant anxiety, regret and boredom. Maybe you become a nihilistic mess that drives you to a worse life than you had before.

I’d take the definite of $10M. I know what I would do with it right now. I know it would be good.

Edit: a downvote without a reply telling me how I’m wrong is really an upvote.

  • A previous employer gave shares to anyone that stayed 5 years after their IPO. I bought some more through their employee discounted buying program. The share price is less than half what they opened with.

I loathe the company and the people who run it because they are psychopaths that will not take no for an answer. That’s also why I never plan on selling those shares. They will be successful, and in 30 years when they are ruthless industry leading monopolistic psychopaths, and those shares have split a few times, I’m going to have a nice little nest egg.

  • I noticed immediately that Lemmy was far less vitriolic than reddit was, but that seems to be changing quickly.

Some of my comments are entirely satire. Some are formal, but a lot of them are my not-so-hard takes or opinions on general bullshit. One of the first comments I made on lemmy a few months ago was still how I feel about social media. Once the “/s” is necessary to distinguish jokes from reality in a community, hate has already won.

While a lot of my comments are generally well received, I’ve been finding that my purely satirical comments have been being disliked at increasingly larger rates, seemingly because users aren’t sure if I’m joking or not. Maybe it’s the audience changing or maybe my satire isn’t landing, but that leads me to something worse.

What I find is a more dismal indicator is that my inoculous opinions aren’t being refuted, I’m just being called stupid for having them. I don’t think I’ve outright insulted someone, or called someone stupid since I was an 11 year old on AIM, but that is what seems to be becoming the norm on lemmy.

Now I’m not saying i can’t take the bullshit. Ill embrace it when given, but if this place was supposed to replace reddit, or be a more free and accepting group or communities, it’s failing. Newcomers aren’t going to stay here long if we can’t get along, and communities aren’t going to thrive with toxic echo chamber tendencies.

Anyway, if anyone wants to have tongue in cheek banter, too bad. I’ll be watching Latex Angel and hotkinkyjo videos. HKJ can fit entire human leg in her torso.

Edit: I also seem to have a follower.(?) I find it odd that most of my comments have a single downvote. Maybe I’m wrong, but if I’m not, downvote away stranger. At least I know you care about me.

  • I had a specific problem today that googling didn’t help (it was a google account problem, go figure). I added reddit to the search terms and clicked into reddit for the first time in months. All I can say is that their UI is purposely horrible. Like, so fucking bad.

I would rather join tiktok than use reddit at this point. That should sound like sarcasm, or hyperbole, but it isn’t. Lemmy is feeling like the last social media network I’ll join, and as soon as lemmy gets to the toxicity levels of reddit, which no offense but I feel will be soon, I’m probably going to be the weird person that just uses their phone to call their family, utility companies, and watch hardcore anal fisting, footing, and prolapsing videos.

  • I’ll listen to the podcast because I’m sure there’s info in it that will be new to me, but I do know drug scheduling creates a purgatory that makes substances difficult to research. When the scheduling means that it can’t be produced in amounts to create meaningful clinical studies, the “drugs with no currently accepted medical use” definition is difficult to get out of.

To add on to that, if John Hopkins research labs, the same one that came up with CPR, water purification, and genetic engineering, thinks psilocybin has medical use and merit, I believe them.
